AquAgri has always embraced curiosity and innovation. As a result, we have unlocked the goodness of seaweed for people and the environment. Since our inception, we have been engrossed in meticulous research and development that has resulted in creating a significant social and economic impact.
We continue to collaborate with experts in the fields of agriculture, food and beverages, animal feed, and numerous other industries. This, combined with our technical know-how, has helped us bring a positive change. Here’s how AquAgri is creating a sustainable future with its extensive research and development.
Developing sustainable packaging solutions that replace plastics.
Global research shows that 13 million metric tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean each year, and four times more plastic could flow into our oceans by 2040.
At AquAgri, we are making progress towards our ambitious sustainable packaging goals by offering biodegradable and edible packaging to replace conventional plastic with Seaweed.
Our Seaweed solution keeps products fresh for longer and reduces food waste.
This solution is completely biodegradable, making it beneficial for the environment.
Our packaging contains antioxidants and antimicrobial components that improve the safety and quality of the product.
This initiative will reduce the total carbon footprint from the food sector.
Seaweed solutions are cheaper and easy to harvest and extract.
A range of sustainable coating films for fruits and vegetables.
It is estimated that around 1.3 billion tonnes of food go to waste every year. About one-third of the food globally produced for human consumption is lost or wasted. This alone is responsible for 17% of direct greenhouse gas emissions and 28% of material resource use. At AquAgri, we are working on solving this global issue with our shelf-life extension and edible coating solutions.
- A growing focus by food manufacturers on reducing wastage from packaging material.
- Increasing shelf life of products, safety issues, and effective usage of space.
- Rising consumption of convenient food offerings, especially in developed regions.
- Governmental initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint in the food sector.
Coating aid for fertilisers
It is essential to handle and store fertiliser properly to avoid the damage caused by dust generation and caking. Fertiliser degradation leads to safety, environmental, and health hazards.
With the aim of mitigating these hazards, AquAgri offers a fertiliser coating solution that is 100% organic and economical. Our coating aid helps fertilisers combat dust problems and helps improve the crushing strength of granules. It also helps in the slow release of nutrients into the soil, which improves Nutrient Use Efficiency (NUE).
Tissue culture and micropropagation lab for marine algae's robust seed production.
The Seaweed industry worldwide uses 7.5–8.0 million tonnes of wet Seaweeds annually. As a result, the demand for Seaweed-based products exceeds the supply of seaweed material from natural stocks. To solve this problem, commercial-scale seedling production of Kappaphycus alvarezii through tissue culture was developed for the first time in India. The production took place at the Seaweed Seedling Production Facility, CSMCRI, Mandapam.
Micropropagation is one of the best tissue culture methods and is currently being used for the large-scale production of plant propagules from the mother plant. As a result, commercial seedling production of Kappaphycus alvarezii through micropropagation came into action.
The technique of tissue culture significantly increased biomass yield and daily growth rate (DGR) compared to conventional Kappaphycus alvarezii cultivation. A 30% increase in biomass was observed.
